Eddie Money

Eddie Money was born Edward Joseph Mahoney on March 21, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York. Although he dreamed of being a musician, after high school, Eddie decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a police officer.

In 1968, after serving as a New York City Police Officer for two years, Money put his law enforcement career on hold to pursue music. He moved to Berkeley, California and began performing at local clubs. Then, in 1976, after changing his surname from Mahoney to Money, Eddie’s fate changed when he was introduced to legendary promoter Bill Graham while performing at one of Graham’s events. The two quickly became close, with Graham serving as both a mentor and manager to Money. Said Graham of Money, “Eddie Money has it all…not only can he sing, write and play, but he is a natural performer.”

After signing a recording contract with Columbia Records, Money burst onto the scene with his eponymous debut album in 1977. Fans immediately fell in love with Money’s sound, and the album, which went double platinum, featured hits like “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise.” Money followed the success of his debut album with a stream of Top 40 hits, as well as some of the era’s most creative videos for songs like “Think I’m in Love” and “Shakin.” In 1986, Money released Can’t Hold Back, which featured the classic, Grammy-Nominated duet with Ronnie Spector, “Take Me Home Tonight.” The song reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went platinum and also featured the hit “I Wanna Go Back.”

Dan Krikorian

If you’re familiar with Dan Krikorian, you know his music is just as much about the poetic power of his lyrics as it is the melodies, all of which can range from infectiously upbeat to soulfully emotive. This all-encompassing and ever-attentive philosophy to his craft has boded well for Dan, who in just less than four years has written, produced and released three albums.

Dan’s latest venture, “Windsor Blue,” is a shift from his earlier musical styles to more adventurous and weightier folk tunes, with influences ranging from classic literature and iconic figures such as Bob Dylan, to the talents of modern musicians including Joe Purdy and Josh Ritter.

As Dan hits the road for “Windsor Blue,” he’ll be returning to many favorite spots visited while touring for his second album – the critically acclaimed “Colors and Chords” – as well as new venues, including stops in Orange County, Calif.; San Francisco; Los Angeles; Redding, Calif.; Sacramento; New York; Boston; Denver; Scottsdale, Ariz.; Austin, Texas; Chicago; and more.

The release of Dan’s second album back in 2009 afforded him a bevy of experience and good press. In the last year, Dan has headlined at The Orange County Fair, a show that drew more than 700 audience members; opened for Grammy-nominated artist Chris Trapper; and had hit songs including “Bobby Jones,” “Tangerine Eyes” and “Fixed on You” played on BBC Radio and other stations extensively throughout Europe.

In addition to touring, Dan is currently working on material for his upcoming fourth album.

Doheny Surf Fest to Help State Parks

Doheny Surf Fest to Help State Parks
Jun 30, 2012
Dana Point Times
In an effort to preserve state parks threatened by closure, the Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association and the San Onofre Foundation have teamed up to present the Doheny Surf Festival on August 11 and 12. This two-day fundraising event will feature all things surf, including exhibitions, demonstrations and autograph-signing opportunities with some of the sport’s premier talent. Food and drinks, including the Kona beer garden, will be available as well. Top food vendors, such as Serena Mexican Grill, Daphne’s California Greek and Nalu’s Island Grill will be on hand to serve guests. Live musical performances will be provided by artists such as Honk, Common Sense, Paula Fuga, Le Blorr and others.

State budget cuts are forcing the closure of nearly 70 state parks. Many nonprofits have come to the forefront to save and support threatened parks and beaches. The Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association and the San Onofre Foundation are committed to preserving San Onofre, Doheny and San Clemente state beaches.

“This is a significant effort to show how much appreciation the citizens of California have for their public lands,” San Onofre Foundation President Steve Netherby said in a news release. “Every dollar we raise stays right in the local parks.”

ROCKIN FOR SO-CAL, DOHENY SURF FESTIVAL TO RAISE $$S FOR STATE PARKS AND BEACHES

Pacific Longboarder Magazine
Dana Point, California: The Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association and San Onofre Foundation are producing the Doheny Surf Festival August 11 & 12, a fundraising event for the Southern Californian State Parks and beaches.

The two day event is an expanded version of the summer surf event that has been held for the last four years. It will include all things surf: exhibits, surf demonstrations, environmental education, surf star autograph signings, tandem, outrigger and SUP exhibitions. A major music line-up includes Honk, Common Sense, Paula Fuga, Le Blorr, ALO, Fishbone, and big name surprises that can’t be promoted yet due to other engagements in the area. 20,000 attendees are expected.

“We have loved producing a great event over the past four years”, says DSBIA President Bill Brooks, “We’re very excited to have Subaru as our title sponsor, 2012 is going to be an expansion to really step it up a notch.”

Nearly 70 State Parks are slated to close in 2012, and the budgets for the remaining Parks are being slashed. The SOF and DSBIA are California non-profit public benefit charitable corporations, dedicated to protecting the treasured State Parks of San Onofre, Doheny, and San Clemente State Beaches.

“This is a significant effort to show how much appreciation the citizens of California have for their public lands,” says San Onofre Foundation President Steve Netherby. “Every dollar we raise stays right in the local Parks.”

The event will be held in the peak of summer where the maximum number of attendees can enjoy the music, exhibits, surf, art and memorabilia. Beer and wine will be available in the Kona beer garden; great food fare will be served by top food vendors who have supported surfing through the years, among them Serena Mexican Grill, Daphne’s California Greek, and Nalu’s Island Grill.

“The Surf Festival’s vision is to present the surf culture as a leading edge movement in the world today,” says Jim Kempton, the Festival Director and CEO of the San Onofre Foundation. “This will be a celebration of the surf culture and an example of an environmentally sound event that is endeavoring to be 100 percent carbon neutral.”

B Side Players

The B-Side Players make music without borders or boundaries. On Fire In The Youth, their seventh album and first for Concord/Picante, they continue exploring the multifaceted grooves of Latin America and the Caribbean, incorporating the sounds of Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico and Brazil with the funk, rock, jazz and hip-hop rhythms of their homeland. With Latin music currently dominating the charts in most of the world, The B-Side Players are uniquely positioned to bring their uplifting message of unity, brotherhood and dance floor revolution to the people of planet Earth.

The B-Side Players are part of a new movement in popular music, a band that honors the international cross-pollination that has always made music the universal language. They use any beat that catches their ear, regardless of geography or genre, to create a compelling, horndriven, polyrhythmic groove. “The root of all pop music is African,” says Karlos Paez, the band’s lead vocalist, trumpet player and founder. “Our sound acknowledges that fact. That’s why the music is so soulful. We’re playing the ancient beats that came from Africa to create reggae, son, Afro-beat and funk and mixing ‘em all together.”

The band has been laying down their own inimitable global funk since they came together in 1994. Their incendiary live shows made them local legends, while their albums showcased a band with a restless musical intelligence, effortlessly blending genres to fashion their own forward looking, Latin flavored, future-funk.
